18 Nov La Marsa Tunisia

Our hotel is in a shabby area, quite run down, and at least six blocks to a better street.
So we see a lot of broken down stuff, kind of broken down people, street cats and dogs, and a lot of garbage.
That's the trouble with booking non refundable room - we are stuck here.
We thought we could take a train to a beach town La Marsa. We ended up on the bus and they cram so many people on there. A girl passed out. The bus is filthy. Well it cost fifty cents C and it took an hour - when people want off they bang the ceiling.
Well it was nice to be in a cleaner town. The beach was lovely, lots of bits of trash mixed in the sand and a few loose homeless dogs. It is 25 degrees C. Jeff swam for half an hour, nobody else was in the water.

We climbed 40 stairs to get to and from the beach.


It's quite a few blocks from the beach to the bus about a half hour walk

Avenue Habib Bourguiba is the Champs Elesie in Tunisia. Wow we are feeling pretty good walking along on a smooth street. Tree lined. Lots of police around.

Now we have to cross a street - there's a crosswalk but no lights, this is tricky, will any driver stop, will a motorcycle run me down, will some toothless wonder step in time with my son and ruin our day? He says his name is Moab his teeth are rotten stumps he speaks good English he wants to take us to a restaurant where they serve mint tea. Never give these people the time of day, they are pests and hustlers, not in your best interest to engage. This dude was hard to shake and when Jeff finally did this cracked up nut screamed and swore in his face.

So Jeff is pretty bummed out , our room stinks, the streets are laden with garbage, the people aren't friendly unless they are hustling you, the transportation system is crowded and confusing, we wish we hadn't come to Tunisia!!!

If we were staying in a better place it would be easier. The smell is relentless
