Tunis Air 22 Nov Tunis to Madrid

We have to check out at 11. I inquire about taxis at the desk using Google translate. He tells me to install bolt. Not the world's most helpful people.
We go to our friendly coffee shop where the lady speaks pretty good English.
I take pictures of a couple of the men only coffee shops and the neighbourhood beggar.

I install Bolt. Fifteen TD to get to airport. He drops us off about 10 blocks away from where we need to be.
Very confusing. I approach random people do you speak English. When a lady finally actually helps me - an Arabic speaking well dressed lady who knew some English - I burst into tears. (Well relax not right in her face but after I thanked her and turned away I just lost it and was weepy for the rest of the day). You get so used to nobody helping, shrug. Or conversely you are suspicious if anyone offers help, what's the catch, what's your angle, how much will this end up costing.
How did she help me? She told me the ticket line didn't open until 1 pm and she pointed to the line I needed to be in to get our boarding passes. She was a random passenger not an employee.
The flight was just fine, we were six rows apart but Jeff had an aisle seat and I had a window seat and there was no one in the middle seat. Plus we got a "meal". So that was good.
It's 19 C in Madrid we get a free shuttle to our hotel. Nice room!

The bathroom is huge and has a tub and separate glass enclosed shower. I have a bath and wash my hair. No flooding. No sewer smell.
There's a grocery store close by so Jeff went out for snacks and brought me back a beer.

Now that we have left Tunisia I can say we had a few amazing moments.
First was Carthage.
Second was that food court next to the train station and the strawberry smoothies.
Third was the Bardo Museum and Fourth was their outdoor restaurant.

These moments all occurred on Wed and Thursday.
The best thing was meeting Diann who we had many adventures with and we both found her very entertaining. We were on the boat together on Saturday, then spent a few hours together on Sunday, then went to Carthage together on Wed and the Bardo Museum on Thursday.

Taxis are cheap. Download the app Bolt and it tells you what the charge is.
Fresh squeezed orange juice should be cheap.
Admission to Carthage and the Bardo Museum is cheap.

Tips
Do not stay near the central train station. Stay near the Medina. Better yet stay in la Marsa or Carthage.
Do not take public transit
Do not walk around unless in the Medina or on the street with the Clock Tower.
You can't spend Tunisian money anywhere else and once you pass security at the airport your Tunisian money cannot be used. Even though you are still in Tunisia. It is now worthless.
Cash is king in Tunisia and most places do not take credit cards. You can only get Tunisian dinar in Tunisia.
Bartering - rule of thumb - 1/3 of the starting price. Be prepared to walk away. 1/3 doesn't always work. Not everywhere barters.

Would I go back? No. But it has good weather, some old ruins, interesting. Lacks charm. Maybe a good place for a three day tour. No I will never go back! And don't want to go to similar places - apparently Sophia Loren has a place in Tunisia. There is vast wealth and grinding poverty.
