Paphos to Naples 28 Oct 2025

28 C in Paphos today
We have to check out at 11 and our flight leaves at 815 pm. We set out to find an actual bank machine and found one right next to an excellent pub with 4 euro breakfasts. Jeff had the full English and I had. the Greek. I had a beer and Jeff had coffee and then we ordered sparkling water and sat on the patio for literally hours to while away the time - lots of expats to chat with - British and Irish. So we caught our bus to the airport for 2 euros each. That's the best deal in Paphos.
All smooth sailing with Ryanair I was in a row by myself with good legroom so eventually Jeff Sat with me.
We were a bit confused about where to catch the Ali Bus - there is a ticket machine inside the terminal - five euros each.
We are staying at an Air B & B about 8 blocks from the station, the landlady doesn't speak English, there is a code which she video chats to me - it's after 11 pm and the streets seem dodgy, but we made it.
This area near the central station is really questionable at night. Jeff goes immediately to a convenience store when we get off the bus, I trail along behind. There are little clumps of people in the shadows and a tall thin man steps out of one and ambles along beside Jeff. He asks for a cigarette (Jeff is smoking one), Jeff says he doesn't have any, let me have that one, and Jeff hands it over. He was going to buy a pack but on sober second thought he doesn't and we leave the market, There are armed soldiers here and there, wow, rough neighbourhood.
The apartment is nice and clean, two sleeping areas, mine is up a flight of stairs and the bathroom is on this level. Really comfy bed.

Happy to be here, staying just one night. Will be easier to walk in daylight!!
So there is a complicated espresso machine. Jeff went out and bought us coffee served in clear plastic glasses.
Everything seems different in daylight. Merchants are washing the sidewalks, lots of hustle and bustle. We go back to the central station and have refreshments nearby.

We eventually figure out which train to catch to the port. We are going to Ischia

Long walk from the train to the port we board the boat with ten minutes to spare.
I had been thinking Crete would be the highlight of my trip but the boat ride restored my faith in travel, I had the whole upper deck to myself, the breeze was invigorating and the scenery breathtaking. Worth every penny 13 Euros and takes an hour.

What a quaint place!

Our hotel is quite a long hike we stop for lemon soda - really good - and a wee treat.

The courtyard at our hotel is a big garden overlooking the Ionian Sea. Roses are still blooming, hibiscus, lemon tree, really pretty:

Our room is up about 28 stairs, has a tiny balcony overlooking nothing. But the ceiling is really high, it is clean and the bathroom is modern
There is no glass in the windows. This is old school Italian, the windows are slatted shutters, and there are solid shutters on the other side of those.
There is no air conditioning but it's ok this time of year as it isn't so hot. There is a tv the size of a small laptop but no English programming.
There's a market about 8 minute walk so we make sandwiches for supper.
We walked a lot today - thank goodness it's only 24 C. I was sleeping by 10 pm.
